Nibiru
Kemptal, Austria

Behind this project created in 2015, is a couple who started with only two and who now have ten vintages. Located in the Kamptal region of northwestern Vienna, close to the Czech border, they cultivate four hectares organically and are also using principles of biodynamics. Julia and Josef focus on local grape varieties such as grüner veltliner, frühroter veltliner, muller thurgau and also riesling.
Josef has always been immersed in the wine world, as his parents are winemakers. Through travelling and meeting other winemakers, he was able to find his own style. Julia, on the other hand literally ''fell into it'' and passion has done the rest.

Before they founded their own vineyard, like many young winemakers in the region, they worked in South Africa, in the Swartland during winter for the harvest. These experiences exposed them to a more modern and avant-garde vision of winemaking as they were in contact with daring winemakers like Johan Herman Meyer, Jurgen Gouws and Craig Hawkins.

On Loess soil, a type of clay sand typical of the region, they produce honest and straightforward wines , fermented with indigenous yeasts, that are unfiltered and unfined. They also practice skin maceration, but in very limited quantities. This provides a challenge for them; to try to change the minds of people in a country where wines must be filtered in order to obtain the DAC designation.

Finally, Nibiru the name of a mysterious planet perfectly symbolizes this young couple, who are breathing new life and new ways into the Kamptal region.
