Domaine Lefort
Burgundy, France

After studying medicine and philosophy in the prestigious Sorbonne University in Paris, David Lefort decided to completely change directions and created his estate in Rully on the Côte Chalonnaise in 2010.

David is an autodidact, who taught himself winemaking simply by working in the vineyard as he does not come from a family of winemakers, a rare thing in the region of Burgundy.

He learned the hard way, not only by acquiring parcels often with many missing vines, but by struggling to restore them as well.

Finally in 2013, he achieved his goal of operating five hectares of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir certified in organic farming, on the communes of Rully and Mercurey. Some of the plots are even classified “Premier Cru”, including the famous Clos l'Évêque.

On this clay-limestone soil, David works manually and the grapes are handpicked.

In the cellar, the healthy grapes are fermented in natural yeasts, no fining or filtration is done and some new oak barrels are used to bring a complexity to the wines.

His wines are always elegant with a texture that could be reminiscent of the neighbor to the north, Côte de Beaune.

David, ever so creative, is also a cabinetmaker and makes furniture with the staves of oak barrels.
