Guillaume Gilles
Rhone, France

Guillaume Gilles began harvesting the Syrah vines inherited from his grandfather (0.5 ha) in 2002, while he was still working for Robert Michel. As a student of Jean-Louis Chave, Gilles did not take long to receive recognition from his peers. The grounds of the estate, which now extend over 3 hectares, consist largely of decomposed granite (gore), but also limestone, marl-limestone and sandy elements.

The soil is labored mechanically with a tractor and pickaxe which is unusual in Cornas. The yields are around 35 hl / ha depending on the vintage. When it comes to winemaking, maceration is usually done in whole bunches in concrete vats, and only using native yeasts. The aging process lasts 18 months minimum, and are performed in oak barrels and half muids. Vinification and aging are done by the micro plot to achieve precision in expression of “terroir”. Bottling is done without fining or filtration.
