Stephane Ogier
Rhone, France

In 1997, Stéphane Ogier joined the family estate, which has been rooted on the hillsides of Ampuis for seven generations. Following oenology studies in Beaune at the age of 17, the fate of Stéphane Ogier was sealed.

Becoming a winemaker for him was not just a question of learning how to do a job, but a true passion. Supported by his father, Michel, he took over the family estate anchored on the vertiginous terraces of Côte-Rôtie. At his side, he learned a great deal and his advice proved to be precious. He learned that the first priority is the work that is done in the vineyard. One must respect the “terroir” and work in harmony with it. Low yields are also favored. Each harvest year dictates how they should proceed, from what to do in the vineyard, to how to proceed in the winery (for vinification and aging), always adapting their techniques so that the final product faithfully reflects the uniqueness and full potential of each “terroir”.

However, after taking over from his father, Stéphane decided he wanted to reveal the unique character of each of the different “terroirs” of his estate by vinifying them separately. They are blended after based on the individual needs of each vintage.

In less than 20 years Stéphane has helped with the expansion of the estate by buying land in Côte-Rôtie, in Condrieu and more recently in the south of the Rhône, near Cairanne. Through his hard work and his talents as winemaker, Stéphane has helped raise the family estate among the great references of the appellation of Côte-Rôtie.
