Les Éminades
Languedoc, France

It is in Toulouse that Patricia and Luc Bettoni met. He was a student in oenology, she in pharmacology; their common interest in wine brought them together. Following various professional experiences in several French wine regions, the young couple finally created their own estate in 2002. From the Italian "Eminada": an expanse of land that can be sown with a mine of wheat, the name of their estate recalls the wheat lands bought for planting the vines and a homage to their grandfathers having abandoned their native Italy to establish their respective families in the region.

The Eminades are in the Saint-Chinian appellation which is schematically defined in two zones: in the north the schistous part and in the south the clay-limestone. Between the end of the Montagne Noire and the beginning of the Cevennes there have been many compressions and resurgences in the earth creating a wide variety of soils such as red sandstones, limestones, schistose marls, flint and small pebbles in the towns of Cébazan and Villespassan. The elevations of the plots vary from 170 to 300 meters.

The vines are mostly made up of very old Carignan (planted in 1902), Grenache Noir (30 to 60 years old), Syrah and Cinsault (30 to 60 years old), Grenache Blanc (planted in 1991), Marsanne and a hectare of Sauvignon. In 2003, they replanted Syrah and Mourvèdre. The plantation densities reach between 6000 and 7000 feet / Ha. The cultivation of the vineyard is done with the greatest respect for nature, without the use of herbicides or pesticides. The Éminades are of course certified Ecocert. All vines are plowed with a caterpillar in order to preserve the integrity of the grounds and to favor their natural development.
