La Querce Seconda

Assisted by his wife Linda Sandkvist, Niccolò Bernabei is the second generation to work the vineyards of Querce Seconda. The family estate, of about forty hectares of Sangiovese vineyards, is located between the towns of San Casciano Val di Pesa and Montespertoli. Although organic farming methods have always been used, they have only been certified since 2001.

It is in their small corner of the country, located furthest north of the Chianti Classico region, in the middle of green vineyards and hills of olive orchards, that they develop healthy vines in harmony with the environment. Using only natural yeasts, very old barrels and hardly adding sulfur to the bottles, the couple of winemakers let the terroir speak through their wines. They produce expressive wines of character within the Chianti and Toscana appellation.
