Mathieu Cosme
Loire, France

Domaine Mathieu Cosme is located in the prestigious Vouvray area and covers the hillsides bordering the Loire River, around the village of Noizay. The soil is mainly composed of clay and flint. The lower part of the soil is composed of limestone, also called tufa. Since 1930, five generations of winemakers pass on their love and passion for the profession on this estate.
Before taking over the reins of the Domaine de Beaumont in 2005, Mathieu Cosme worked at the legendary Domaine Huet where he gained much of his experience. He now cultivates 13 hectares of Chenin Blanc, practicing techniques inherited from his predecessor's traditions. On this vineyard, the horse and the winegrower perform all the plowing. This prevents compaction and asphyxiation of the soil caused by the weight of a tractor. The vineyard is managed according to the principles of organic farming. This means the use of chemicals such as weed killers and other synthetic farming products are condemned.

As the family tradition stipulates, all the parcels of vines are hand-harvested and vinified separately. Therefore, the expression of each terroir can be expressed at its purest form. Cosme then blends the wines by tasting often from the tanks throughout the vinification process. Because the wines are produced naturally and with the highest farming standards, the result is an authentic expression of the great wines of Vouvray.
